oshougatsu @ new year. pegi beraya rumah eguchi-san with kak mazrah, cik linda n meor. ippai oishii oshougatsu no ryouri ga itadaita wa. i never knew that every oshougatsu delicacy has a symbolic meaning. for example, by eating kuromame @ blackbeans, it is hoped that the person will become mame (diligent, hardworking); or by eating kazunoko @ herring roe, it is hoped that the person will get lots and lots of children that year (ironically, 2 children per couple is the average here).. and so on.
i also get to sample 'napekko', a kind of nimono (food boiled n seasoned) which is a specialty of nagaoka which includes stuff like imo (yam, i guess), scallops, mushroom, kamaboko (steamed fish paste) and chikuwa (adik beradik kamaboko).
ichiban inshou ni nokotteru mono wa gomadoufu datta. the most impressive one was gomadoufu, which is actually tofu made out of sesame. i simply love it (cik linda detested it though.. isy isy..). its hard to imagine making tofu out of sesame seeds. it was undescribably delicious!! 
the food was prepared by eguchi otousan @ father. according to kak mazrah, otousan no houga ryouri umai dasoudesu. the eguchis seemed to be delighted to receive our visit actually, since all their children have all grown up and live separately. must be darn boring for them. okaasan @ the mother complained to kak mazrah that we rarely visit them anymore. warukatta ne. hhehehe... 
the eguchis are actually my landlord/lanlady. they've long enjoyed a close rapport with malaysian students since the first batch that came to nagaoka, but sadly, the relationship is on decline since.. i dunno. my fault as sempai? 
kinda hard to think of myself as sempai..

i was the mom-of-the-bride, as the ceremony was held at my house. no simple task, such a big amanah..
what a crowd!! as the host, i was panicky at first when guests started coming non-stop and there were no spaces left to seat them. (there was some misunderstanding among the guests on the time they should arrive) food was aplenty but still i worried that it might not enuff to serve all. crisis came one after another. at one time i was running out of kleenex. at another time, cik linda had to cook some more chicken. people were asking for more food, more plates, where was this thing or that thing and what not. hectic!!
almost 70 guests turned up. besides madina members, our indonesian frenz as well as people from urasa also came. and there were 2 families came all the way from tokyo. i invited jun & kitani too.

tonnes and tonnes of heartfelt gratitude to the 'family': cik linda, kak aida, kak tiey, kak sulasteri from yamagata, kak diana & lyn from niigata, meor, kak izan & abg din, kak rina, kak mai, razi, abg sam, acik, betik, cikdol, dore, azam, pakram, wan-za, adzwan (adik kesayangan), kak izan (matboy) and other names that i might not recall here.

akhirnya nagaoka turun snow gak. today. dan yuki @ snow turun tanpa segan silu.. banyak turun!! 0) nasib baik dah tukar snow tyres aritu. dah la hari ni kena jalan merata2.. shopping expedition. kena jalan slow slow jer.. perjalanan yg biasa 10 minutes, jadi lebih setengah jam. esok kena bangun awal dari biasa la nampaknya kalau nak gi skolah..

today is the annual nagaoka international food festival organized by nutisa (NUT International Students Association) with collaboration of the city hall, held at nagaoka kousei kaikan. basically the idea of this festival is to introduce the food and culture of countries represented by foreign students studying at NUT to the japanese people as well as to the international community in this city and nearby areas. participation from countries like malaysia, indonesia, thailand, myanmar, vietnam, romania etc.
didnt stay long enough at the festival to mingle with others or to watch the performance. got some errands to run

hari ni dapat gambar baby from yot. alhamdulillah mimi dah slamat gave birth to a healthy baby girl, syaura syauqina binti yusaini on Nov 25, 2003 = 1 Syawal 1424 kat jb.
hihihi.. dapat anak sedara sesama jawa.. comel giler.. aaaaa nak baby jugak!!
to yot & mimi, omedetou. bila la auntie elle leh jumpa syaura nih?
